3 Music Podcasts You Need To Check Out

0

With so many podcasts out there we wanted to recommend a few of our favorite music related ones – in no particular order.

PatCast

logo_patcastLed by Train’s lead singer Pat Monahan, “PatCast” is a fun look into the inner working of the entertainment industry through fun interviews with a wide range of guests – from famous musicians to the important behind the scene people (i.e. producers, record label execs). Equally entertaining as the guests’ stories is Pat’s insight into Train and their music and recording process.

All guests seemingly have a connection to Train/Pat whether they worked on one of their albums or did a concert with the band at some point. Somewhat surpringly for music fans, the non-musician episodes with album producers, song writers, and the like are most interesting.

Standout episodes:
– Episode 62: Sammy Choi – The guy responsible for everything on the field at a NFL game except football. Great insight and stories about halftime shows and singing the national anthem. Choi’s story on how he got to many people’s dream job steals the show.
– Episode 15: Johnathan Cain – Not only do they breakdown the writing of “Don’t Stop Belivin'” (you won’t believe where the song title comes from!) the interview is entertaining all around.

Walking The Floor

Hosted by the Foo Fighters’ lead guitarist Chris Shiflett, “Walking The Floor” is a collection of interviews with (mainly) country guitarists. The occasional non-country musician, or non-musician is sprinkled in, but with Chris’ side project, Chris Shiflett and The Dead Peasants, being a honky tonk country project the podcasts direction is no surprise.

Standout Episode:
– Episode 14: Matt Skiba – With Matt recently joining Blink 182, this episode provides a great “who is Matt Skiba” background. But you should already know who he is – his main band Alkaline Trio is always worth a listen.

AbsolutePunk Podcast

podcast_300x300The podcast focuses generally on the punk, or rather larger alternative space, with hosts Jason and Thomas casually demonstrating their expert insight into the industry.

The show is more topic based – focusing on news items, industry trends and listener submitted topics. As mentioned the hosts know the music scene inside and out (Jason started and has run the music site of same name for over a decade).

Since the show is generally more news/current event based than interviews or full-show topics its hard to pick a favorite but if you dig deep in the show’s archives there are some great interviews with bands from the scene (New Found Glory interview is personal favorite).
