3 Doors Down, Seether, Aranda

Hard Rock Live Orlando played host to some of the biggest names in alternative rock headlined by 3 Doors Down. The music was loud, the crowd was big, but the show lacked memorable moments. Not to say the show wasn’t enjoyable – just not one you’ll be talking about for the next few years.

3 Doors Down
Best known for their string of alternative rock crossover hits “Kypronite”, “Here Without You”

In a strange move that proved to work very well – the band kicked off their set with “Here Without You” building it up from just a piano to the full album version. A minimalist stage setup featured a small set of bleachers on either side which allowed some lucky fans to sit and be close to the action.

The band sounded tight and the songs carried much more energy live (especially true for their ballad-esq songs), however the show had a very laid back feel. Perhaps it was the fans sitting (its a rock show – allow your fans to stand) on stage, maybe the basic stage setup, or maybe this tour is on the heels of their successful acoustic tour, but the show had an informal feel. A feel that felt like it was friends playing in your garage – not bad if you are a hardcore fan, but not overly exciting either. To be fair, previously the band has put on a strong and powerful show – perhaps tonight was an off night.

Seether
While not having as many commercially successful hits as 3 Doors Down, Seether was the band a majority of the crowd was there to see (seemed like nearly 70% of the crowd was wearing their tshirts). With the addition (or return – the inclusion has been on and off) of an additional touring guitarist for this tour allowed for the band to perfectly replicate the heavy sound from the records.

Highlights included the stripped down “Broken” which saw everyone loudly singing along and the high energy set-closer – “Remedy”.

Aranda

Good music, catchy songs, but never quite making it is Aranda’s story. Which, based on their performance, is unfortunate – the band has had several mildly popular songs over the years. Their quick 30 minute set was fast paced and full of energy. However, a drawn out last song featuring guitar being played by the guitarist’s tongue and a boot (…separately) came across as a a bit much ending the set on a low note. If they only let the music do the talking.
